Portrait of a young girl: tribute to Vermeer, oil on copper

This portrait was one of the works in the Christmas show at the Leyton Gallery of Fine Art but it was sold even before the show was open. The portrait continues my "Tribute to Vermeer" series. There are a few more of my works in this exhibition. They are oils on copper plate. I was inspired by the paintings by old Dutch master painters including Rembrandt and Brueghel who produced fine works on copper. The paint on their old paintings never cracked like paint on canvas does and the colors remained luminescent for almost 500 years. Special properties of copper allow color to “shine from within” almost jewel like.
